  4. 3.5 of Almanac for Windows NT.  Topics discussed in

  15. REGISTRATION
  16. ------------
  17. Almanac is not free software.  It is released as
  18. shareware, which provides the opportunity for the
  19. program to be evaluated before it is purchased.
  20.  
  21. We hope that after you try Almanac you will like
  22. it so much that you will want to register.  By
  23. doing so you are voting with your pocketbook for
  24. us to continue developing high-quality, Windows
  25. shareware.
  26.  
  27. Complete information on how to register Almanac
  28. is included in the REGISTER.TXT file.
  29.  
  30. Customers who have registered a previous version
  31. of Almanac should refer to the UPGRADE.TXT file
  32. for upgrading information.

  35. COMPATIBILITY
  36. -------------
  37. This version of Almanac has been specifically
  38. created for use with Windows NT version 3.5
  39. or higher 32-bit Windows platform.
  40.  
  41. If you are running standard Windows, a 16-bit
  42. version of Almanac is available from Impact
  43. Software.

  46. UPDATING A PREVIOUS ALMANAC INSTALLATION
  47. ----------------------------------------
  48. Almanac's SETUP utility has been enhanced to update
  49. a previous installation automatically.  Version 3.5
  50. of Almanac may be installed over version 3.0 or 3.1.
  51. SETUP will update the program and help files, and will
  52. not overwrite any existing data files on your hard
  53. disk.
  54.  
  55. If you specifically want SETUP to replace any
  56. release files such as the sample overlay files,
  57. delete them from your installation before running
  58. SETUP.
  59.  
  60.  
  61. INSTALLING ALMANAC 3.5 for the WINDOWS NT O/S
  62. ---------------------------------------------
  63. Almanac should be installed while running under
  64. the logon ID of the Almanac user.  Configuration
  65. information is maintained for the user in their
  66. area of the system registry.
  67.  
  68. Although this is the recommended approach to
  69. installation, you may have a specific need to
  70. install Almanac as Common system.  For example,
  71. if Almanac is maintaining an office schedule in
  72. a factory that operates multiple shifts, you may
  73. want the clerk for each shift to share the same
  74. Almanac system.  In this case, install Almanac
  75. for each user and specify the same target
  76. directory.  You may safely add users later -
  77. SETUP will not overwrite any existing data files.
  78.  
  79. The Almanac package includes a graphical Windows
  80. installation program using the standard name of
  81. SETUP32.EXE.  You should place all of the files
  82. included in the release package on a floppy disk
  83. or in a temporary directory of your hard drive.
  84.  
  85. SETUP requires about 650K bytes to complete the
  86. installation of Almanac for Windows NT.
  87.  
  88. Run SETUP by selecting the 'Run...' command from the
  89. File menu of Program Manager or File Manager.  Enter
  90. "d:\SETUP32" as the Command Line, where "d" is the
  91. drive/directory that you are installing Almanac FROM
  92. (for example, A:\SETUP).  Select "OK".
  93.  
  94. 1. The first action performed by SETUP is to display the
  95.    date your computer is set to.  Almanac's calendar
  96.    will not operate correctly if your computer is not set
  97.    to the correct date.
  98.  
  99. 2. SETUP will then display an Installation Control window.
  100.    Three pushbuttons allow you to change the FROM and TO
  101.    drives and paths for your install.  SETUP initially
  102.    sets these values for you so that you can just click
  103.    the Install button if you do not need to make changes.
  104.  
  105.    If you are using Program Manager as your Windows shell,
  106.    SETUP will allow a Program Group to be selected
  107.    to receive the startup icon for Almanac.
  108.  
  109. SETUP will inform you when installation is complete.
  110.  
  111. If your Windows installation is configured for French,
  112. German, or Spanish language, or if you would like to
  113. customize Almanac for another foreign language, please
  114. read the following section.
  115.  
  116.  
  117. FOREIGN LANGUAGE OPTION
  118. -----------------------
  119. Although it would be difficult for us to create and
  120. distribute our shareware in multiple languages, it is
  121. important to try to meet the needs of the many
  122. customers who would enjoy such a capability.  Almanac
  123. 3.5 has been designed to provide the option of
  124. customizing the text that appears on the menu as well
  125. as the text of calendar displays and prints.
  126.  
  127. Almanac 3.5 will look for the file ALMSTR.TXT in the
  128. directory that it is executed from.  This file contains
  129. the foreign language equivalents for specific text that
  130. is used on Almanac's menus and displays.
  131.  
  132. If your Windows installation is configured for either
  133. the French, German, or Spanish language, Almanac's
  134. SETUP utility will ask you if you would like it to
  135. install the appropriate language information for
  136. you.
  137.  
  138. If you are running any other language than these or
  139. English, SETUP will direct you here for more
  140. information.
  141.  
  142. You can build your own ALMSTR.TXT file by first
  143. copying the ALMENG.TXT file from your release disk
  144. into your Almanac directory.  (SETUP does not
  145. install this file - you should only copy it from
  146. the release package onto your hard disk if you
  147. intend to customize Almanac for a language other
  148. than English.)  This file is a sample language
  149. template that contains the English text used in
  150. Almanac's menus and displays.  You can edit this
  151. file with Windows NOTEPAD or other ASCII text
  152. editor to create your own ALMSTR.TXT file.
  153. Simply replacie the English text with the
  154. appropriate text of the language you would like.
  155.  
  156. It is important that you do not add or delete
  157. any lines from this file.  Each line of the
  158. file contains text that Almanac will substitute
  159. for a specific area in the program.
  160.  
  161. Menu items contain an ampersand (&) character
  162. in front of the letter of the text that will
  163. be underlined and used for Alt-key selection.
  164. Hot keys, such as Ctrl-P for File.Print
  165. cannot be changed from their English derived
  166. defaults.
  167.  
  168. Almanac will automatically use the new text in
  169. ALMSTR.TXT the next time it is executed.  Be
  170. careful to leave the first line of ALMSTR.TXT
  171. unchanged.  This contains the major and minor
  172. version of Almanac so that later versions can
  173. avoid using the file if changes to the contents
  174. of the file must be made.

  177. like to send us, as well as any corrections that
  178. you think we should make to the files we are
  179. distributing!

  191.  SOFTWARE LICENSE
  192.  
  193.  Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use Almanac
  194.  on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining
  195.  whether Almanac is suitable for their needs.  The use
  196.  of Almanac, except for the initial 30-day trial,
  197.  requires registration.  The use of unlicensed copies of Almanac,
  198.  outside of the initial 30-day trial, by any person,
  199.  business, corporation, government agency or any other entity is
  200.  strictly prohibited.
  201.  
  202.  A single user license permits a user to use Almanac
  203.  only on a single computer.  Licensed users may use the
  204.  program on different computers, but may not use the program
  205.  on more than one computer at the same time.
  206.  
  207.  No one may modify or patch the Almanac executable files
  208.  in any way, including but not limited to decompiling,
  209.  disassembling, or otherwise reverse engineering the program.
  210.  
  211.  A limited license is granted to copy and distribute Almanac
  212.  only for the trial use of others, subject to the above
  213.  limitations, and also the following:
  214.  
  215.   1)    Almanac and all of its release files must be
  216.         distributed in unmodified form, complete with the
  217.         file containing this license information.
  218.  
  219.   2)    Almanac may not be distributed in conjunction with
  220.         any other product without a specific license to do so
  221.         from Impact Software.
  222.  
  223.   3)    No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
  224.         accepted, except as authorized below:

  226.         A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
  227.            may make Almanac available for downloading only as
  228.            long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or
  229.            time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
  230.            system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
  231.            charge for the download of Almanac.

  233.         B) Vendors of user-supported or shareware software approved by
  234.            the ASP may distribute Almanac, subject to the
  235.            above conditions, without specific permission.  Non-
  236.            approved vendors may distribute Almanac only after
  237.            obtaining written permission from Impact Software.
  238.            Such permission is usually granted.  Please write for
  239.            details (enclose your catalog).

  241.         C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the
  242.            Almanac diskette to their members, subject to
  243.            the above conditions, without specific permission.
  244.            Non-profit groups may collect a disk duplication fee
  245.            not to exceed five dollars.

  247.   LIMITED WARRANTY
  248.  
  249.   Impact Software warrants that all disks provided are
  250.   free from defects in material and workmanship, assuming
  251.   normal use, for a period of 90 days from the date of
  252.   purchase.

  254.   Impact Software warrants that the program will perform
  255.   in substantial compliance with the documentation supplied
  256.   with the software product.  If a significant defect in
  257.   the product is found, the Purchaser may return the
  258.   product for a refund.  In no event will such a refund
  259.   exceed the purchase price of the product.

  261.   EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, IMPACT SOFTWARE DISCLAIMS ALL
  262.   WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
  263.   LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
  264.   FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
  265.   PRODUCT.  SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, THE
  266.   PURCHASER ASSUMES THE RISK OF PAYING THE ENTIRE COST OF
  267.   ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION AND ANY
  268.   INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.  IN NO EVENT WILL
  269.   IMPACT SOFTWARE BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
  270.   (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF
  271.   BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS
  272.   INFORMATION AND THE LIKE) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR THE
  273.   INABILITY TO USE THIS PRODUCT EVEN IF IMPACT SOFTWARE
  274.   HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

  276.   Use of this product for any period of time constitutes
  277.   your acceptance of this agreement and subjects you to its
